John P. Monaghan, 78, of Radcliff, KY passed away Monday, September 3, 2018 at the University of Louisville.
Mr. Monaghan was born September 11, 1939 in Derry, Northern Ireland. He was retired from the United States Army, having served one tour in Korea War and also being a veteran of the Vietnam War where he was a recipient of the purple heart & bronze star. Some of his memberships include: St. Christopher Catholic Church, Radcliff, KY, lifetime member of 11ACVVC, VFW Post 10281, Vine Grove, KY, Black Horse Association, Vine Grove Masonic Lodge #603 F&AM, and a lifetime member of DAV Chapter 156, Radcliff, KY.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Monaghan; and three sisters, Bernadette, Rita, and Veronica.

His loving wife, Ruth Monaghan of Radcliff, KY; four children, Dennis Monaghan (Deborah) of Utah, Melissa Monaghan (Jim Wilson) of Indiana, Missi Monaghan Ruiz of Nevada, BJ Monaghan (Stacie) of Independence, KY; fourteen grandchildren, Shaun, Andrew, Nathan, Amara, Chris, Kaylan, Luke, Brett, David, Darian, Diego, Arissa, Brodie, Braiden; five siblings, Anna, Myra, Alec, Sheila, Frankie; and a host of family & friends.
Visitation will be from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday and from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM Friday at the Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Monaghan will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 7, 2018 at St. Christopher Parish, Radcliff, KY. Burial will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY with military honors.
