Mona Kerns Obituary

Mona Ruth Kerns, 68, of Louisville, KY passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 at Norton Women’s and Children Hospital, Louisville, KY.

Mrs. Kerns was born on July 8, 1951 at St. Joseph Hospital in Murphysboro IL and married the love of her life & best friend, Marty Kerns on Dec 30, 1972. 

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Murphysboro, IL and had retired from Southern Illinois Healthcare after 35 years. Her proudest achievements were helping SIH develop the Second Act Program and establishing the Arthritis Walk in Southern Illinois. Some of her hobbies include: golf, traveling,  casino,  and her fishing boat which she considered her happy place. She cherished the many trips she enjoyed with her husband.  She had a very strong faith & her strength came from God.   

Survivors include:
Her husband, Marty; one son, Greg; one daughter, Valerie; a son in law, Mike; two grandchildren, Hunter & Hadley; one sister, Lynda Loy; and a host of family & friends.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM Thursday at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kerns will be held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY with Pastor Charles West officiating.

A bereavement dinner will be held at 6:00 PM, Thursday at the Cambridge Commons Community Center, 11101 Cambridge Commons Drive, Louisville, KY 40291.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY (A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM, Friday to go to the cemetery).

A Memorial Celebration of Life held  from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the 17th Street BBQ - The Annex, 32 N 17th St, Murphysboro, IL 62966
