Vernon Lamar Jones

May 31, 1932 ~ September 5, 2018 (age 86)

Vernon Lamar Jones, 86, of Radcliff, KY passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown, KY. To be absent from the body, present with the Lord. Did you know Vernon?  If not you missed a blessing.

Born to Raymond & Mable Jones on May 31, 1932 at Saunders Springs, Radcliff. Vernon attended Vine Grove Elementary and High School and graduated in 1950.  He loved sports, basketball, baseball, and bowling.  He made his profession of faith at the age of 10 at Mill Creek Baptist Church.  He served as a deacon in 4 churches, Mill Creek Baptist, Rineyville Baptist, Stithton Baptist, and Elizabethtown Baptist.  He also served as church Treasurer and Sunday School teacher at Mill Creek.
He served in the Korean War in the Army Reserves, a combat veteran. His memberships include: DAV Chapter 156, VFW Post #10281, American Legion Post #113, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He retired as a foreman  maintenance engineer at Fort Knox, KY on January 1, 1988 after 36 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers William Jones and Norman Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Dorothy, his daughter Debbie Bowman, his son Lamar (Barbara) of Elizabethtown; 5 grandchildren, Austin Belcher (Stephany), Chelsea Puckett (Matt), Alyvia Jones, Heidi Jones, and Aaron Prather; 5 great grandchildren, Devin Johnson, Derrick Johnson, Katelynn Belcher, Grant Belcher, and Matthew Puckett; his sister Phyllis McDonald (Carroll) of Radcliff; and special nieces Elaine Rogers (David), Susie Rosenblatt (David), Lois Long (Randy) and nephew Terry Jones.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday and from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM Monday at the Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.

Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Chism Family Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in the KY Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY.
