Born on August 21, 1948, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He was a decorated veteran who served with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam.  Alvin retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of Sergeant Major after dedicating 27 years of his life to serving his country with honor.

In 1968, Alvin married Easter Mae Hart, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure across many states. Their 56 years of marriage were marked by a deep bond and a shared commitment to family. Alvin was a devoted father to Angel and Alan and a proud grandfather to Boone, Bridger, and Lilly. He was known for spoiling his family, especially his beloved wife and grandchildren.

After retiring from the military, Alvin earned an Associate’s degree and taught computer classes in California. Upon moving to Kentucky in 2003, he continued to stay active by working various jobs on Fort Knox and in Bardstown, as well as assisting his wife with their bed and breakfast. He loved collecting DVDs, reading, and, above all, Starbucks mochas.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Maggie (nee Burns), as well as his siblings Don Vales, Lilly Smith, Sandra Reist, and Lester Vales. He is survived by his wife, Easter, daughter Angel Vales of Elizabethtown, Ky, son and daughter in law  Alan and Rachel Vales of Vine Grove, Ky, grandchildren Boone, Bridger, and Lilly of Vine Grove, Ky and siblings Kenny Vales, Jackie Goodwin, and David Vales of Michigan.
