William Chester Powell, 87, of Radcliff passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at his home surrounded by family and friends
Born on January 10, 1935 in Charleston, MS to Joseph (Buck) Powell and Minnie Esther (Riche) Powell. He was married to Ethel Sue Simmons from Advance, MO for over 65 years. She preceded him in death in 2020.
He enlisted in the US Air Force in October 1954 and served for 23 years, rising to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E-8). He was stationed overseas in Japan (1957-58), Vietnam (1965-66) and spent 11 years in Alaska. Retiring in 1977 he made his home in Radcliff, KY and started the Powell Construction Co. building many houses and several commercial buildings in Radcliff and Vine Grove, including the Gold Vault Inn and additions to Mill Creek Baptist Church. Along with his wife, Sue, he worked for Toby Tours out of Louisville, KY for several years. He was a devoted member and deacon of Mill Creek Baptist Church
He was a loving husband, father, grand-father and great-grandfather, who loved to help people and was known to many as “Pap-Pap.”
Survivors include his sister, Daurice Cato; four children; Chester Gale Powell, Radcliff KY, Deborah June Back, Radcliff KY, Ricky Allen Powell (Vickie) of Apache Junction, AZ and Theresa Rhea Phlegar, Radcliff KY; eight grand children; Tia, Trey, Chelsea, Richard, Krystal, Kaitlyn, Evan and Ashley; and 13 great-grand children: Sadie, Riley, Melody, Judah, Seth, Shaun, Alexis, Mikeala, Easton, Caitlyn, Drayven and Adria with one more, as yet unnamed, on the way!
Visitation will be at Mill Creek Baptist Church from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Wednesday, 28 Sept,
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, 28 Sept, at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Radcliff, KY.
A graveside service with military honors will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY.
