Craig L. Banks Sr., 61, of Louisville, Kentucky, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, September 25, 2023. Born on Wednesday, September 5, 1962, in St. Louis, Missouri, Craig was known for his friendly nature, selflessness, and thoughtful demeanor that touched the lives of his family and those around him.
Craig was the loving son of Georgia Banks and the late MSG Estol Banks Sr. He was also a brother to the late Bobby Banks. His strong family ties extended to his significant other, Mary "Kelly" Espinoza, his two sons, Craig "C.J." Banks Jr. and Jalyn Banks, and his daughter, Ashley Espinoza. Craig was a proud grandfather to four grandsons; Cameron, Timothy, Dominic, and Kash Banks; and one granddaughter, Gabriella Banks. He also leaves behind two brothers, CW3 (RET) Estol "Cary" Banks (Christina) and Anthony Banks (Michelle), and two sisters, Desiree Gowdie (Leroy) and Kimberly Barnes. His extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends will remember him fondly.
Raised in a military family, Craig attended high school in Germany, graduating from Baumholder High School in 1981 where he played football wearing his favorite number 23. His education laid the foundation, as he followed in his father's footsteps to join the United States Army.
Craig's faith played a significant role in his life. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at True Light Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri. His faith was an integral part of his life. Craig never met a stranger. To know him was to love him. He loved to crack jokes and had an infectious laugh and smile. Being an avid sports fan, his favorite teams were St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. Craig loved his family with all his heart but most of all he loved God. His favorite saying was "God's got me!"
