Dr. David Leo Mills, 88, of Lehigh Acres, Florida, passed away on January 19, 2022 after a long illness. Dr. Mills was born in Meade County Kentucky. He was a Purple Heart recipient in the Korean War. He was a graduate of both the University of Kentucky and Auburn University with a degree in veterinary medicine. He was in private practice in Clark County Kentucky for twenty years after which he worked for the USDA until he retired in 2002. Dr. Mills was an active member of the Winchester Lions' Club and was an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Clare Crutcher Mills; his parents, Charles A. Mills and Mildred Medley Mills; his sister Carolyn Petredis (Louisville); brothers, Joseph Mills and Charles Mills of Meade County Kentucky.
Dr. Mills is survived by two daughters and two sons, Elaine Christopher (John) of Winchester, Kentucky, Missy Monroe (Bill) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Sam Mills, of Winchester, Kentucky, and Jeff Mills of Glasgow, Kentucky; three sisters and one brother, Marian Rambeck of Harbor, Oregon, Helen Evans of Middlesboro, Kentucky, Cathy Smith of Brandenburg, Kentucky and Anthony Mills of Louisville, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, James D. Monroe of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Mary Beth Monroe of Lexington, Kentucky, Amanda Christopher and Becky Christopher of Winchester, Kentucky, Christy Mills-Skwera of Ashville, North Carolina, Lauren Mills-Bertram of Edmonton, Kentucky and Nathan Mills of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and seven great-grandchildren.
The Mass and Christian burial will be at St. Martin of Tours in Flaherty, Kentucky, April 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. EST.
