Obituary

Doris Louise Junkin Weaver, 88, of Radcliff, Kentucky, a wonderful, kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and teacher, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Signature Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Radcliff, Kentucky.

Doris was born on July 27, 1934, to Damon Curtis and Elizabeth Louise Junkin of Pickens County, Alabama. She graduated from Pickens County High School where she received the Daughters of the American Revolution Award and Scholarship Contest. This award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. After graduation, Doris attended Livingston State Teachers College in Livingston, Alabama. She graduated from college and married Charles Elvin Weaver in June of 1954.

She began her teaching career in Alabama, then moved to Radcliff, Kentucky and taught at Radcliff Elementary School until 1965. While teaching there she and Charles raised two daughters. In 1966, the family moved to Germany for a three-year tour, where she continued her teaching career at Butzbach Elementary School and Giessen High School. When the family returned to Ft Knox Army Post, Doris returned to Radcliff Elementary School and she and Charles added a precious son to their family.

Doris had an abiding faith in God and Christ Jesus, her Lord and Savior. She was a long-standing and active member of Stithton Baptist Church where she taught a women’s Sunday School class for many years. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 439. Mrs. Weaver was known for her integrity, honesty, compassion, and generosity. Teaching was her passion and her calling from God. Through the years, she had a tremendous impact on the lives of her students. She received many awards and accolades for her years of service in Hardin County.

The family is grateful and thankful for the many people who cared for and ministered to Doris at the Signature Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, who we’ve come to know as extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Damon and Elizabeth Junkin; and her brother, Jerry Junkin and her sister, Carolyn Junkin Weaver.

Doris is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Charles E. Weaver, Sr., her daughters, Charla (Angie) Rendon (Reuben), Sabrina Nall (Mark), and Charles E. Weaver, Jr. She had two granddaughters, Holly Jenkins and Erin Hoagland, (Chris) and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Jenkins, Alexandra Jenkins, Cora Hoagland, and Miles Hoagland.
