Erika Draus Obituary

Erika Irene Draus, a loving wife, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2022, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Born on Friday, August 7, 1925, in Zwickau, Germany, Erika's life was marked by courage, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her family and friends.

Erika's early years in Germany were marked by the challenges of World War II and its aftermath. Despite these difficulties, she demonstrated her courage and determination by making two attempts to cross the border into West Germany. Her persistence paid off, and she successfully crossed in 1946. Erika's bravery and resilience were defining characteristics that would remain with her throughout her life.

In the years that followed, Erika met her future husband, Joseph Draus, in Bindlach, Germany. They fell in love and were married on July 3, 1954, in Bayreuth, Germany. Together, they embarked on a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Erika was a thoughtful and devoted wife, always putting her family's needs before her own. Her warm and loving nature made her a cherished friend to many.

Erika's passion for gardening and growing flowers was evident to all who knew her. Her green thumb and love for nature brought beauty and joy into the lives of those around her. Erika's garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, and her flowers served as a testament to her ability to cultivate growth and happiness in even the most challenging circumstances.

Throughout her life, Erika remained deeply connected to her German roots and was proud of her heritage. She maintained a strong bond with her sister, Helga Newbert, and her nephew, Harold Mocdian, who reside in Germany. Erika's love for her family transcended borders, and she was a constant source of support and encouragement for her loved ones, both near and far.

Erika is survived by her devoted husband, Joseph Draus, of Radcliff, Kentucky; her loving sister, Helga Newbert, of Germany; her nephew, Harold Mocdian; and a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss her presence in their lives. Erika's memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
