Eugene R. Walls, a dedicated serviceman and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2023, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Born on Tuesday, September 24, 1929, in Lyon County, Kentucky, Eugene's life was characterized by unwavering commitment, kindness, and thoughtfulness.
Eugene was known for his selfless dedication to his family, friends, and country. He served honorably in the United States Army, where he displayed his unwavering commitment to duty, honor, and country. After his retirement from the military, Eugene continued his service to his community through civil service at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
A man of faith, Eugene was a member of the Main Post Chapel at Fort Knox. His commitment to his faith was also evident in his involvement with the Masonic Lodge #749 in Upton, Kentucky, where he served as a past master. His dedication to the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth further underscored his character as a man of integrity and honor. Eugene's involvement did not stop with his faith and service. He was a 32° Scottish Rite Mason and a proud Kentucky Colonel.
Eugene's greatest joy, however, was his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shellie Marie Walls. He is survived by his three children, Eugene R. Walls II (Karin), James Wayne Walls, Cynthia Marie Benoit (Ronald), and his four grandchildren, Nicole Flippen, Amber Vermilye, Morgan Walls, Zachary Walls. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Emma Flippen, and Adaline Kepler. His sister, Elsie Peak, along with a host of extended family and friends, will remember Eugene for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, August 18, 2023 and from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.
Funeral services for Mr. Walls will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY. Burial with military honors will follow at the St. Patrick Cemetery, Fort Knox, KY.
