Frances G. (Montgomery) Houk

Frances Gladys Houk, 87, a long-time resident of Vine Grove, KY left this world on Sunday, September 19, 2021. After making a recovery from COVID she suffered a massive stroke. In true stubborn Mom fashion, she hung on for several more days, only letting go a day after finally getting to see family in person or over FaceTime.

She was born on July 28th, 1934 in Ewing, VA, as the tenth of thirteen brothers and sisters.

Frances was a giving and loving mother. Her true joy in life came from her family. She spent the majority of her life caring for her family and being a domestic goddess. She was a proud military wife and always gave the best gifts.  

Frances is preceded in death by her loving husband Gary Houk, the daughter she adored Brenda Vale Taylor, her infant daughter Patricia Taylor, her son-in-law Donald Harper, and her infant granddaughter Haley Ogden. She also lost her mother, Lillie Yeary Montgomery, at tthe age of three, and her father, William Montgomery as a young adult.  She is also preceded in death by her siblings Marshall, Gene, Tip, Arvil, Henry, and Howard Montgomery, Peggy Owens, Sharon Pond, Mary Stanley and Hazel Gaddis.

With sorrow and sadness, Frances leaves behind her loving children, Valecia Harper, Carolyn Taylor, Rick Taylor, Tammy Dages (Chuck), Pam Ogden, Scott Houk (Leatha), her step-daughter Kristy Dohn (Eddie), two siblings Floyd and Kenneth Junior Montgomery and her obedient dog Belle and her lifelong friend, Imogene.

Known as “Mamaw” she is also survived by her grandchildren Brian, Angela, Todd, Amy, Christy, Melissa, Jacob, Shane, Marnie, Amber, Alan, Kaitlyn, Brandon, Sy, Tyler, Chase, Matthew, Kyle and Elizabeth and 25 great grandkids.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Friday, September 24, 2021 at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.

Funeral services for Mrs. Houk will be held at 6:00 PM, Friday, September 24, 2021 at the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY. A private burial will be held for the family at a later date.
