George Polk, 93, of Bardstown, KY transitioned into his heavenly home on Sunday, March 12, 2023 while residing at Landmark of Bardstown, KY.
George (G.W. or Sgt. Polk) as he was affectionately called, was born on October 28, 1929 in Hickory Valley, TN to the late Millie Polk. G.W. attended schools in Hardeman County. G.W. grew up in a loving household along with his two siblings, Sue and Freddie. As a young man G.W. was affiliated with his mother’s church, New Hope Ministry Baptist in Hickory Valley. George joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1960. While serving in the military he met his future wife, Jeraldine Lewis whom he married on February 5, 1955 and they remained Kentuckians for the rest of their lives. George loved getting together with family & friends for barbecue picnics and home made ice cream. During those times he would often reminisce about his military days which would brighten his day.
