Hansel Haycox Obituary

CW3 (RET) Hansel L. Haycox, 86, of Vine Grove, KY passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Baptist Health Hardin, Elizabethtown, KY.

Mr. Haycox was born on December 9, 1934 in Marengo, Indiana to Lyman & Lula Wellman Haycox. Both preceded him in death as well as a son, Patrick D. Haycox and two siblings, Lloyd Haycox (Lynn) and Rita Vitello.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 54 years, Rose Mary Haycox of Vine Grove, KY; two sons, Anthony Haycox of Vine Grove, KY, Michael Haycox (Vicky) of Mount Washington, KY; three brothers, Lovell Haycox (Barbara) of Tennessee, Kenneth Haycox (Vickie) of Indiana, and Kevin Haycox (Sheila) of Indiana; Dan T. Haycox of California and Hope Small(Johnnie) of Indiana; and a host of loving family and friends.

He graduated from Milltown High School and later enlisted in the United States Army, serving for 22 years in Korea, Alaska, Japan, Germany, Vietnam, and several stateside locations before retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. During his service he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal on 3 occasions, the Bronze Star on 3 occasions and the Meritorious Service Medal. After his military service, he worked in several industries and earned degrees from McKendree College (Bachelor’s Degree, Business Administration with a minor in Computer Science) and Webster University (Master of Arts, Computer Data Management). He continued his life of service next as a Budget Analyst with the United States Civil Service and then as a part-time instructor of computer courses in local colleges. Throughout his life, he enjoyed visiting with family and friends, sharing stories gleaned from genealogy and 1/2 family history, traveling and researching Merrill’s Marauders as the historian for their Proud Descendants, honoring a unit of the United States Army that operated in the China-Burma-India theater in World War II.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Thursday, and from 8:30AM until 9:00 AM Friday at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.

Funeral services for Mr. Haycox will be held at 9:00 AM, Friday, January 22, 2021 from the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY with Rev. Tony Carson and Pastor Craig Taylor officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central,Radcliff, KY.
