Irene (Ray) Whelan

Irene Whelan, 98, of Flaherty, KY passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Tender Touch Senior Living, Elizabethtown, KY.

Mrs. Whelan was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Flaherty, KY. She was born July 16, 1922 to Lon & Mary Ray and she was the twelfth of their thirteen children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardin Whelan; one son, Wayne Whelan; and a granddaughter, Michelle Canaday Vaughan.

Survivors include:
Two daughters, Carolyn Canaday & her husband, Glenn of Vine Grove, KY, Angela Whelan McKenzie of Nicholasville, KY; six grandchildren, Chris Canaday, Pam Tonini & her husband Sergio, Karen Nolcox & her husband Tony, Ryan McKenzie & his wife, Casey, Allison Wetzel & her husband, Karl, Matthew McKenzie & his wife, Virginia; eleven great grandchildren, William Vaughan & his wife, Brittany, Evan Vaughan & his wife, Ashlee, Gabe Nolcox, Ethan Nolcox, Siena Tonini, Simone Tonini, Ruby McKenzie, Daisy McKenzie, Ian Wetzel, Owen Wetzel, Benjamin McKenzie; four great great grandchildren, Brayden Vaughan, Addyson Vaughan, Scarlett Vaughan, Carol Anne Vaughan; a daughter in law, June Whelan of Paducah, KY; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family & friends

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday and from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM Thursday at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Whelan will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 28, 2021 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Flaherty, KY. Burial will follow in the St. Martin Cemetery, Flaherty, KY.
