James Reed

James “Jim” Reed, 69, of Rineyville, KY passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Baptist Health Hardin, Elizabethtown, KY.

Mr. Reed was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the United States Army. He was retired from Fort Knox Range Control and a longtime commissioner for Vine Grove Ball Park. His memberships include: St. Brigid Catholic Church, Vine Grove, KY and St. Brigid Choir. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. In his later years, he experienced great joy when spending his afternoons with his grandson, Braylon after school. He was affectionately known as “Poppy” and “Papaw” by his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James R. & Marcella J. Reed

Survivors include:
His wife, Sharon Reed of Rineyville, KY; four children, Matt Reed (Tracy Goodin) of Glendale, KY, Charlie Reed (Elisa) of Vine Grove, KY, Christina Baptiste (Jay) of Fortson, GA, Brooke Reed (Anthony Stroud) of Rineyville, KY; ten grandchildren, Austin, Aaron, Jessica, Kayla, Landyn, Hannah, Broderic, Presley, Audrey, Braylon; three sisters, Deanna Anderson of Missouri, Jill Kirkpatrick of Iowa, Janice Hudgins of Oregon; and a host of extended family & friends.  

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, March 19, 2021 and from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Reed will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 20, 2021 at St. Brigid Catholic Church, Vine Grove, KY with Rev. Daniel Lincoln officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Brigid Cemetery, Vine Grove, KY.
