Joyce Mason Obituary

Joyce Hodge Mason, 72, of Vine Grove, KY passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Baptist Health Hardin, Elizabethtown, KY.

In her earlier years Joyce enjoyed sewing, reading, playing tennis and family vacations. Ms. Mason graduated from George Washington Carver High School in June of 1967 and Delaware State College (University) May of 1971. She had a very active life in College. She became a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Epsilon Alpha Chapter Fall of 1969. The line name was Unique 18, which Joyce was #18.  Because of her leadership and dedication to the sorority, she was awarded the position of Dean of Pledgees for the Fall 1970-line, Double Dozen. Joyce was a Math Major at Delaware State, which was rare at that time for a female.  Because of her logical abilities she became the Treasurer of the Student Government and Women Senate. Joyce was one of the DSU71 classmates that attended all the milestone Class Reunions.  Classmates wrote what a beautiful person she was, quiet spirit, easy going, deep hearty laugh and a beautiful smile. They were truly saddened when learning of her passing, thus she’ll miss the 50th Celebration at Homecoming 2021. Joyce was also a member of Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges.

Later in life she enjoyed working puzzles, researching & building her family tree but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and staying in touch with family & friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James & Doris Hodge; and one brother, Earl Hodge.

Survivors include: Three children, Brea Sanchez, Justin Mason, Danielle Mason; four grandchildren, Abriana Sanchez, Aiden Mason, Andres Hayes, Ayla Mason; one sister, Vera Hassell & her husband, Ervin; and a host of extended family & friends.

A memorial service time and date will be forthcoming.
