Margie S. Martinez (80) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, passed away at her home on Thursday, September 5, 2024, with her husband and niece by her side.  She was born January 14, 1944, in Lebanon, Kentucky, to the late Jesse and Maudie Sims.  

Margie graduated from Lebanon High School in 1962.  She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Western Kentucky University.  She initially taught elementary school in Lebanon, Kentucky for 3 years, then moved to Elizabethtown, Kentucky where she taught at Morningside Elementary School until retirement in 1999.  Thereafter she was a Title I aide for the Hardin County Schools until 2001 when she stopped working to help care for her father.  

Margie is survived by David M. Martinez, Sr., her loving husband of thirty-one years; an adult son, Michael Christopher Bruno; one granddaughter, Nina Bruno; her niece, Debbie; and three nephews, Jimmy, Stan and Scott.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosine Sims Lee.  She is loved by many extended family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, Friday, September 13, 2024 at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Mrs. Martinez at 12:00 PM, Friday, September 13, 2024 at the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY with  Rev. Tommy Valentine officiating. A committal service will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY.
