Michael Scott Truax Obituary
Michael Scott Truax, 59, of Elizabethtown, KY passed away Friday, March 20, 2026 at his residence.
Mike was born June 3, 1966 in Portland, Oregon to Henry and Sandra Truax. He finally filled up his injury punch card, though it was really his check engine light that got him.
Mike grew up in Beaverton, Oregon. He graduated from Beaverton High School in 1984. Mike was an active kid who, like any good kid that grew up in the 70/80's, wandered the neighborhood, getting into all sorts of shenanigans until the street lights turned on. He spent many hours in the forest near his house building forts and bike trails. One unlucky day, Mike dug into the wrong spot and discovered the wrath of 100 yellow jackets. He rode his bike, top speed to escape the swarm but unfortunately for him, the bees kept up.
Mike was known in the neighborhood for his Pontiac Lemans. It may have been more than one neighbor that enjoyed the smell of the tires laying rubber in the street or driving across the freshly mowed grass. Throughout his life he always had a car or motorcycle to work on.
Mike was always a hard worker and was never good at sitting still. He was the master fixer and solution finder. Always willing to lend a hand to others.
Mike was an army veteran. He joined the Army in 1986. After leaving the military, Mike began working for the DOD at Ireland Hospital, where he stayed until his passing. He loved his job and was known for his many practical jokes in the workplace.
He leaves behind a family that was constantly worried about his next project, or taking him to the ER, but loved him dearly anyway. Mike is survived by his beloved and heartbroken wife of 17 years, Oak. He leaves behind his four children Amanda Borcherdt (Kenyth), Scott Truax, Steffan Truax (Koya), Elaina Truax(Antoni) and grandkids Ayden, Madi, Levi and André. He is also survived by his parents, Henry and Sandi Truax and sister, Shanda Smith (Curt), niece Ilse, and nephew Tanner. He has so many more family and friends that will cherish his memories.
None of us will hear Mike accusing us of "Screening your calls again, huh?" (After missing his call).
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Chism Family Funeral Home.
Funeral service for Mr. Truax will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 1:30 PM.
