It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our mother, Penelope “Penny” Cecilla (Spigler) Dalton, on June 21, 2024, in Vine Grove, Kentucky at the age of 81. Penny, born on October 23, 1942, in Washington, D.C., was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many through her dedicated work as a cardiac technician with the Herrico Volunteer Rescue Squad and role as a district manager at Rite Aid and Walmart. She grew up all over the country but called Columbia, Virginia her home for a time.
Some of her passions in life included drag racing with Kenneth Dalton, Sr., training and riding horses, oil painting, reading science fiction novels, fishing, spelunking in the caves of Shenandoah, and rock hunting for gemstones; which led to her receiving her Miners Certificate at Moorefield Mines. She also loved volunteering at the SPCA in Richmond. She indulged in beta-testing and playing video games. She even received her pilot’s license like her father.
She is survived by her children, Patrick Sean, Patricia Sharon, and Colleen Kelly, as well as ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a niece, Stephanie, and nephew, Justin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lola Spigler, her brothers, Monte and Scott Spigler, and her son, Kenneth “Butch” Dalton, Jr.
Penny expressed a wish that no formal funeral service be held. Instead, she hoped that those who knew her would cherish the time spent with family and loved ones. Instead of flowers, memorial donations honoring Penny’s memory can be directed to local animal shelters.
