Ray Mahaffey Obituary
Ray Mahaffey, 67, of Shepherdsville, KY, passed away December 11, 2025 at Baptist Health Hardin, Elizabethtown, KY.
Ray Mahaffey was the son of Homer and Betty Mahaffey, Husband of Gina Mahaffey and Father of Zachary and Bradley Mahaffey. He was many things to many others: a brother, a cousin, a friend, a mentor, and even a hero. Ray was a veteran of the United States Army and a hard-working family man. His life epitomizes the tough, weathered all-American type of man that is becoming rarer every day.
His upbringing was characteristic of that classical 60s’ style, stern-papa, big nuclear family with no shortage of shenanigans or their expected consequences. A 70s teen, and with the haircut to prove it, Ray couldn’t shake the familial instinct for service to his country and enlisted after high school into the U.S. Army into the Signal Corps. He followed his fathers’ footsteps as a master tinkerer, with a reputation for creating and fixing anything. With his family, building his home (and others) with their own hands, Ray set his future on a bright trajectory. Marrying and starting a family, he ensured that the tropes inherit in the American way of life will not pass with him. We love you, Ray.
Ray was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Mahaffey and Steven Mahaffey.
Ray is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gina Mahaffey; two children, Zachary Mahaffey and Bradley Mahaffey; one brother, David Mahaffey; two sisters, Lisa Mahaffey and Valerie Higgins; and a host of extended family and friends.
