Ray Wicker Obituary

Ray Wicker passed away peacefully at Baptist Health Hardin Hospital on March 18, 2025. 

He was born on October 18, 1931 in Mousie, Kentucky the son of Linville and Liza (Campbell) Wicker. He was married to his loving wife Alice for 56 years. 

Ray joined the Army on July 22, 1950 where he served for 23 years in various assignments at home and overseas including a tour of Vietnam in 1969. His dedication to our Army and our great nation earned him three Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantry Badge among other medals. Upon retirement, he worked as a Manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance for 5 years and began to miss military life.  He then went to work at Fort Knox Range Control, then as a Security Officer for Kellar, Brown, and Root working in Saudia Arabia. Upon completion of his time in Saudia Arabia, he was contracted as an Armor Warfare Instructor for the government of Kuwait, training the Kuwait Army in armor warfare increasing their defense posture throughout the country. He retired after returning from Kuwait. He loved to raise a garden and enjoyed going to the North Hardin VFW Post 10281 daily to support the post and spend time with his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Alice, his parents, three sisters, Maudie Wicker, Delta Ratliff, and Dorothy Hayes; six brothers, Woodrow, Columbus, Carl, Hawley, Arnold, and Orville. 

Ray is survived by his two sons, Mark (Denise) Wicker and David (Lea) Wicker; four grandchildren, Brock (Ashley) Wicker, Brittany (Ben) Wicker Crotty, Cora and Axton Wicker; four great grandchildren Callan and Claire Wicker, and Sloan and William Crotty, a brother Freddie (Faye) Wicker and sister-in-law, Sheila Wicker and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Chism Family Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Wicker will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 23, 2025 at the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home with Brother Ben Underhill officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the North Hardin Memorial Gardens, Radcliff, KY.
