Rolando (Ron) Escobedo, a long time resident of Wheaton, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2023, at the age of 67.
Ron leaves behind his wife, Suzanne; daughters Katrina (Nathan) Kelly and Sara; father Natividad (Hope) Escobedo; sisters Diana Ermi and Nora (Philip) Brandon; nephews Anthony (Acey) Ermi, Alex (Charlisha) Escobedo; and grandsons Cash and Brooks Kelly. He is predeceased by his mother, Ercelia, sister, Elizabeth, brother, Robert, and brother-in-law, David Ermi.
Ron was born on March 15th, 1955, in San Antonio, Texas, to father Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Natividad (Ski) Escobedo and mother Ercelia Escobedo. He grew up in a large, loving family and was the eldest of three sisters and one brother.
Ron studied military history and art at Murray State University. He then went on to receive his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Kentucky. He fulfilled his childhood dream, and joined the United States Army, where he served his Country proudly until his Honorable Discharge.
Ron married his best friend, Suzanne, on October 4th, 1980, in Fort Knox, Kentucky. They lived in Heidelberg, Germany, and Lexington, Kentucky, before, eventually, settling in Wheaton, Illinois, when a new job opportunity brought them there.
Ron was kind, generous, cheerful, and always quick with a witty joke or amusing story. He was always the first one to make friends in new social situations and was never afraid to engage strangers in friendly conversation.
His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was always genuinely felt.
Ron was an avid football fan and enjoyed continuously reading and learning about military history. He had a deep appreciation of the arts; his knowledge of music and cinematic history was vast. He loved traveling and experiencing new places.
A memorial service for Ron is scheduled for 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 15th, at Chism Family Funeral Home, located at 769 Highland Avenue, in Vine Grove, Kentucky. Graveside services with Military Honors will follow at North Hardin Memorial Gardens, located at 1100 South Logsdon Parkway, in Radcliff, Kentucky. Chaplain Roy Easter will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, Ron would appreciate donations sent to the United Service Organization in his honor. The USO strengthens America's military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation; an organization Ron cared greatly about.
