Ronny Holding

SGM Ronny George Holding, died April 12, 2024, at Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Ronny was born July 18, 1946, in Merksem, Belgium to Raymond Lister Holding and Lisette DeSmet. SGM Holding, a 33-year Army veteran, served in the Vietnam War and Desert Shield. Most of his career was served in Cold War Germany. His awards include the Legion of Merit, 3 Meritorious Service medals, and 4 Army Commendation medals. He was inducted into the Ancient Order of St. Barbara. Following retirement, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. He worked with Lincoln Trail District Health Department.

Ronny, a sports enthusiast, enjoyed bowling, baseball, soccer, and poker. He was an avid University of Kentucky fan. Ronny was a saxophonist and as a young man played at USO clubs wherever his father was stationed. In retirement, he enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and time with family and friends. Ronny was a quick-witted, kind, strong man, a mentor and guide to those who served under him, a loyal friend, a compassionate, loving husband, and a trustworthy, forgiving father. Ronny never broke trust.

Ronny’s parents, his wife, Sibylle Kaethe (Baum) Holding and siblings Susanne Pauline (Holding) Bridges, and Walter J. D. Holding preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Ann Elizabeth Ferguson of Rineyville; two sons, Raymond Henry (Angela Sue Titus) Holding of Parker, CO, and Kevin Christoper (Wendy Peña Cruz) Holding of Ft. Knox, KY; two siblings, Mark Richard (Susan) Holding of Lompoc, CA, and Bruce Allen (Avic) Holding of Melbourne, FL; one step-son, Joshua David (Stephanie Lee Davis) Dohrer of Sellersburg, IN; two grandsons, Michael Allen Dawson of Lexington, KY, and Tyler Bryce Holding of Elizabethtown, KY and numerous nieces and nephews as well as many cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Monday, April 22, 2024 at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.

A graveside service with military honors will be held for Mr. Holding at 2:30 PM, Monday, April 22, 2024 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY.
