Sherrill Larose (McGee) Owusu Obituary

Mrs. Sherrill Larose Owusu (née McGee) entered the world on 12 January 1949 in Birmingham, Alabama. She departed our world on 02 March 2025 at her home in Radcliff Kentucky surrounded by her beloved sons. She was one of over a dozen siblings. As a daughter of the deep south, Mrs. Owusu knew early on while the deck was stacked against her, she must “Walk by Faith and not by Sight (2 Corinthians 5:7)” Her life personified this adage and served as an example of what one could do with faith. She lived by and recited these words every day. She graduated from Wenonah High School in Birmingham and attended Lawson State Community College. Of all the jobs she had one of the most profound (next to being an amazing soldier, wife, and mother) was being a Certified Nurse’s Aide. This would set the foundation for her later military career spanning over 12 years as an Army Medic during the Persian Gulf War era. Anyone who knew Mrs. Owusu (whether you knew her as “SGT McGee,” “SGT O,” Sherrill, Ms. Sherrill, Auntie Sherrill, or Mom) bore witness to her drive and passion to take care of others.

Mrs. Owusu was preceded in her death by her husband of over 35 years, Mr. James Yaw Owusu Sr., parents John and Gladys McGee, her beloved sisters Ms. Delores McCurty, Ms. Juliet Pickett, her beloved brother Mr. James McGee, two nephews, Mr. Johnny McCurty and Mr. Gary McGee and most recently a niece, Ms. Janice McGee.

Mrs. Owusu leaves behind her three sons, Mr. Kevin McGee, Mr. Emmanuel Owusu and Mr. James Owusu Jr., who will miss her dearly but will continue to “Walk by Faith and not by Sight.” She also leaves behind sisters Ms. Barbara Arrington, Ms. Susie McGee, Mrs. Wanda K. Gilder, Ms. Carolyn Jones, and Ms. Elaine McGee all of Birmingham, Alabama. She leaves behind brothers, Mr. John L. Edmonds of Ohio, Mr. Willie B. Richardson of Mississippi, Mr. Robert McGee of Birmingham Alabama, and Mr. Carlton McGee of Florida. Mrs. Owusu also leaves behind her Sister-in-Arms, Ms. Gail White of Huntsville Alabama and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Owusu may be gone physically but her beautiful spirit lives on in those she loved and who loved her. Her beauty, grace, her class, her elegance and her duty to God, Family, Friends, and Country are unmatched. She was truly a Leading Lady in our lives. “A Rose is still Rose” and Sherrill Larose Owusu will forever remain a beautiful rose in the garden of life. We will always love you.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at North Hardin Memorial Gardens, Radcliff, KY.
