Sylvia Ann Smith, also affectionately known as “Tookie”, was born alongside her twin brother Sylvester Dan Robinson “Sly”, who preceded her in death in Chicago, Illinois on September 27, 1957 to the parents Melvin Price and Odessa (Etta) Dunlap, who preceded her in death, and stepfather, Curtis Dunlap, who also preceded her in death.
Sylvia accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She was educated in the Chicago Public School system and spent much of formative years developing into womanhood with the help of her loving three older sisters Theriss Jones, who preceded her in death, Oliva King and Beverly Reddick. She married James Smith Jr and dedicated her life to raising their children and fortifying her relationship with God. She also had a very diverse employment history with several jobs centered around caring for others. Moreover, she was most passionate about God, her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings and overall extended family.
Tookie was well known for her sharp wit and keen sense of humor. She also loved collecting antique dolls and other unique antiquities. Like her twin brother, she had a very comedic personality that instantly lit up any room that she entered. Tookie left a lasting impression on everyone and her presence was electrifying. Among her many passions in life, she loved having highly spirited phone conversations with all her friends and family members. These conversations were often filled with vivid and hysterical stories that would invoke a rollercoaster of different emotions.
Sylvia was the quintessential bridge across multiple generations of family members and everyone felt her presence. Her energy was infectious and to know her was to love her. Sylvia was called home on January 28, 2023. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories (husband) James Smith Jr; (father) Melvin Price; (children) Tarriana Woodberry, Antonio Smith (Yajaira), Kyle Smith (Donielle), Shanike Lanham (Desmond) and Daniel Smith; (grandchildren) Antonio D.
