Thomas William Hertz Obituary

Thomas William Hertz, Jr, of Radcliff went to be with the Lord on  Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 1:20 pm. He was born on August 5, 1942, in Peoria, IL and grew up there.

Mr. Hertz moved to Kentucky in 1974 while serving on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and a Kentucky Colonel. He retired at Marine Corps Base, Hawaii as a First Sergeant with 22 years of service. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he retired from the civil service, Fort Knox, KY with more than 25 years of service.

After retirement, he enjoyed reading, golfing, working in his yard, and walking. He normally walked 30-45 miles per week. He wore a Fitbit and had totaled over 14,000 miles.

Mr. Hertz was a member of Grace Heartland Church in Elizabethtown KY.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Lynn Hertz; his parents, Thomas W. Sr & Ilene M. Hertz; and a twin brother, Ronald W. Hertz (Fern).

He is survived by a sister, JoAnn Willett (Paul) of East Peoria, IL; one brother, Charles D. Hertz (Sue) of Bartonville, IL; three daughters, Tamberly D. Smith (Tracy), Crystal C. Carter (Will), Britney L. Nolan (James); one son, Thomas W. Hertz; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and a host of extended family & friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Sunday, September 8, 2024 and from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, Monday, September 9, 2024 at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.

Funeral services for Mr. Hertz will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, September 9, 2024 at the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY with Pastor Jeff Noel officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY.
