Violet Joyce Cowden, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and her groom on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at her beautiful farm in Rineyville, Kentucky.
She was born January 19, 1943, in Lebanon, Kentucky to the late Fred and Edith Shewmaker. She was a loving wife, mother, mamaw, and devoted servant of the Lord.
Violet would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received a call, a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends she has not seen in a long time. Job security is exactly 110 percent. Her new mission takes her to an incredible place where she will be fishing, cooking, gardening, mowing, and motorhoming to her heart’s content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce. She left a block of instructions for her husband and children to celebrate her mission here, which has now been completed. Low adherence to this instruction will not be tolerated. Mamaw has spoken. We want to let her know that she did a great job and wish her a safe journey. We will remember her smile, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, family and friends, but also her incredible resilience. You’ve never met anyone more fierce. She persevered through war as a waiting wife and later, a worrying mother, through child rearing alone for much of the time, working full time, and managing obstacles that to most would be insurmountable, but she was too tough to quit. She worked very hard all her life, up until the very end. She made a difference in the lives of many. She is now a beautiful bride waiting patiently for her groom to arrive to walk hand in hand with her again in the everlasting.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving groom of 56 years, James William Cowden of Rineyville, Kentucky; five proud children, Edna Mae Powell of Rineyville (Dennis); Wilena Joyce Balogh of Eddyville, Kentucky (John); James William Cowden, Jr. of Greenup, Kentucky (Leona); Melanie Ruth Swoboda of Levant, Maine (Joseph); Sue Ellen Cowden of Rineyville; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 6, 2021 and from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY.
