Virginia Cockriel Obituary

Virginia Lee Cockriel, 85, of Rineyville, passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 27, 2021.

Virginia was born in Petersburg Indiana in 1936, and raised her family in Valley Station until the mid 1970’s. She then spent the years that followed in the Rineyville area. She loved her family beyond words, and found her joy when the family was together. Her faith in God and the love of her family helped her to overcome breast cancer twice and fight many health battles until her work on earth was finished and God called her home. During her life, Virginia was an advocate for all those around her. She frequently helped others in need whether it was helping people find resources or just making a phone call to check on family and friends. She devoted her life to her family and found her greatest joy when the family was gathered all in one place laughing and sharing memories. She cherished time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Being there for her family was the utmost important thing to her. She was selfless and loving as a mom, grandmother and great-grandmother, praying and loving her family above herself, being there in every way she could.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy Morgan; her siblings, Paul Dejarnett, Dorothy Jones, Bud Dejarnett and Eddie Dejarnett.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 69 years Hubert Cockriel;  five children, Gary Cockriel (Ann),  Sharon Vertrees (Jimmy) of Louisville, Brenda Hannahs (Wayne) of Louisville, Debbie Vance (Bill) of Rineyville, and  Lynn Butler (Jeff) of Rineyville; a son-in-law, Mark Morgan; her grandchildren,  Michelle McGuffin, David Woosley (Samantha), Carrie Ward, Melissa Haycraft (Steve) Timothy Cockriel, Matthew Morgan (Amanda), Michael Morgan and Adam Vertrees; her Great-Grandchildren, Caitlyn Woosley, Benjamin McGuffin, Andrew Haycraft, Matthew Haycraft, Kristen Ward, Austin Woosley, Thomas Haycraft, Elizabeth Haycraft, Chloe Cockriel and Brentley Cockriel; her siblings, Faye Smith (Glen) and Gene Dejarnett.
