His eulogy:

We are gathered here together to say our final farewells to a great man, my Dad, who was a loving brother, uncle, caring friend, neighbor and father.  In 2004, I thought I would lose him, but he survived another 16 years.  In these 16 years, I spoke to him every day from 11:00 – 12:00, minus the time I came to visit him.  In that hour we talked about everything even you guys.  I was a part of your lives without you even knowing it, because you were a part of his life.  We laughed together and he told me how much he enjoyed your company.  There were negative and hard times.  After my Mother’s death in April 1995 pulled him down, you without realizing it pulled him back up.  I know you have very fond memories of him because he had fond memories of you and because you shared your life with him, he was a very rich man.

He has brought memories of joy, made you laugh or maybe even ruffled your feathers. If you think of these memories, some of them may be sad but the majority of them will be positive and funny. Except for those of you that have the unfortunate occupation of being a light bulb salesman. But no matter, his motto at the end of the day, don’t take hard feelings to bed with you. No matter how angry, apologize and ask for forgiveness. It does not matter if you were right or wrong, what matters is showing that you care. We always reconciled our differences and at the end of the day we were buddies.

My Dad was open minded and everyone he met started with a clean slate. So it was up to you to fill that slate. This is something to cherish, something to remember and something to use in your relationships with other people.  When you smile and joke around his memory will come up and say hello. I am truly glad you had a part in his life.  You meant a lot to him. They say in the last few seconds of our lives we flashback.  If this is true, he saw all of you before he peacefully went to heaven. I know all of you had a special place in his life.

When Susan and I saw him together for the last time we could see that he died in peace. Pray for him and thank God for him being a part of your lives because he thanked God for you.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
