William "Bill" Maurice Gooch, 78, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, passed on Friday, March 20, 2020, in Hilton Head, South Carolina after a brief illness.
Bill was born to Lewis Green Gooch and Sarah Edith Crumbaker Gooch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Georgia Ann Gooch Morgan, and his niece Donnie Ann Morgan.
Bill is survived by his nephews Christopher L. Morgan (Kathleen) of Williamsburg, VA, Stephen P. Morgan (Doreen) of Roswell, GA; five great-nieces & nephews, Philip, Rachel, Vivian, Gabriel, Ezabella, and one great-great-nephew Jonathan.
Bill graduated from Lafayette High School, Lexington, KY, in 1960 and immediately entered the Air Force. Bill served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1968, stationed in Europe and Oklahoma City, ending his service as Staff Sergeant. After leaving the Air Force Bill joined Vince Dental Studios in Lexington and later the dental lab at Fort Knox, KY for 28 years.
Bill was a member of Radcliff Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for many years. Bill enjoyed travel, including Alaska, Ireland, and a Rhine River cruise. He especially enjoyed spending winters in Gulf Shores, AL and Hilton Head, SC. In retirement he pursued creative activities such as needlework, loved model trains, and any type of electronic gadget. A cause close to Bill’s heart was supporting local food ministries.
In recognition of the one-year anniversary of Bill’s passing, a memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021, at 1:30 PM, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 North Dixie Boulevard, Radcliff, KY 40160. The service will be outdoors under the pavilion. There are no limits on attendance, but personal distancing measures will be observed and masks are strongly recommended.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Bill’s memory to Radcliff Presbyterian Church ministries, 1751 S. Logsdon Pkwy, Radcliff, KY 40160.
